The Nembe are an Ijaw People of the Niger Delta region, settled in the region that now includes the Edumanom Forest Reserve . The date of foundation of the old Nembe kingdom is unknown. However, Nembe which spans present day Nembe and Brass local government areas in Bayelsa State has a complex territory and a strategic location, which gives it preeminence in the Niger Delta. This painting depicts a typical life in the Nembe community circa 1960 before the discovery of oil exploration . People are seen fishing , washing their cloths & also fetching water . Unfortunately after oil was found , the waters have been polluted by oil spills and different conflicts have started due to oil revenues .
