This series entitled rising sun depicts the rising of the black woman back into her position of power and prominence. This concept is characterised in the form of a ballerina; a discipline that requires mental and physical strength in combination with effortless grace and femininity. 

The stance of each ballerina forces the viewer to orbit each painting and in doing so recognises the beauty and fortitude that black women radiate as the centre of our families and our wider communities. The choice of background colour reflects the tones of the morning, as the rising ballerina burns away the night’s darkness and the new dawn shines brightly once we recognise the gravity of her power.
