In the Igbo land, the age grade group is  set towards improving the social, cultural, and economic development of different communities in the land. People born within 3 to 4 or even 5 years age bracket from one community  are grouped as an age grade.Age grades serve as avenues for social interaction among members and, more importantly, as agents of community development.
